Wallowa Mountain Institute (WMI) is the education and outreach arm of Wallowa Resources. Our mission is to promote healthy lands and communities through knowledge, research, and exploration. We believe that sustainable communities are built on healthy environments, thriving economies, and social equity. Our goal is to inspire people of all ages to connect hands-on with the rivers, mountains, wildlife, forests, and people of Wallowa County, in hopes of invoking a sense of stewardship for this amazing place.
WMI's Programs Include:
- Youth Stewardship Education Programs
Field Trips for all ages
- Undergraduate/Graduate Programs
- Lecture Series
- Watershed Festival
With each of our programs, we seek to:
1) develop understanding of the linkage between human and ecological communities;
2) promote a sense of place and environmental stewardship;
3) merge natural and cultural history with the arts, humanities, and science;
4) and inspire curiosity, critical-thinking, and life-long inquiry about nature.
