Day Trip Schedule and Booking Information

Excursions are suited for all ages. Maximum of 10 participants on each departure. Wallowa Mountain Institute provides a local naturalist, snacks, sack lunches (full-day trips only), and transportation from town in our comfortable, air conditioned van. Some hikes are more rigorous than others, so inquire about duration and difficulty.

Field trips run every Thursday through Sunday, late May to early September.  The Working Ranch itinerary is offered on Thursday mornings; Geology from the Mountaintops is offered Thursday afternoons.  Friday through Sunday are open to all other itineraries.

Trip costs for full-day itineraries are $68 for adults, $39 for children under twelve years of age.  Half-day itineraries are $25 for adults, $18 for children under twelve.  The Mt. Howard Geology tour includes the cost of the tram ride: $47 for adults, $35 for children under twelve.

Please attempt to contact us within 24 hours prior to your desired trip date to make a reservation.

Be prepared! Summer temperatures can reach above 90 degrees, and snow can fall in Wallowa County any month of the year. Bring a day pack with plenty of clothing layers (synthetics or wool are best), sunscreen, binoculars, brimmed hat, a one-quart water bottle (at least), sunglasses, camera, and sturdy footwear. Long pants help deter thorns, sunshine, ticks, and poison ivy. Participants will be required to sign a liability waiver.

Proceeds from the day trip program help fund WMI’s Youth Stewardship Education program.
